What is the Nervous System?
Your Nervous System is the dominant system in your body. It controls and regulates the function of all cells, tissues, organs and systems of your body. Because of the tremendous importance of this system, nature protects most of the system by bone. Your skull protects your brain, and your spinal bones protect the spinal cord and spinal nerve roots.
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a system of correcting the spinal column to allow normal body function. Chiropractic is founded off the idea that the body is a self-healing organism. Healing within the body occurs at its full potential when interferences with nerve transmission are eliminated.
What is Vertebral Subluxation?
A subluxation is a minor misalignment of the segment of the spine (vertebrae), causing an irritation to a nerve, with loss of normal function. It is an interruption of communication from the brain to any cell, tissue or organ in the body. Subluxations are caused by any stress (physical, chemical or mental) the person cannot adapt to. Injury and trauma result from accidents, surgery, postural problems, repetitive strain and any other physically compromising situations. Although extreme pain has been observed in some cases, it is more often noticed as a discomfort or not at all.
If the condition is allowed to go untreated, the body will attempt to help support the subluxated vertebrae, but may deform instead causing arthritis and eventually calcification. The purpose of Chiropractic adjustment is to return the subluxated vertebrae to as normal of a position as possible.
This will in turn remove pressure off the nerve and restore nerve function to the affected area. If detected early, a subluxation may respond well to chiropractic care with an excellent chance for a complete and painless recovery.
What is a Surface EMG?
Surface EMG is a chiropractic device that measures the amount of electrical activity your muscle release when they are contracting. It is similar to an EKG, which measures heart muscle activity.
This is a tool that Chiropractors will often use in examinations to determine that state of a patient and is quite helpful in analyzing Vertebral Subluxations.
